TxSGS is proud to offer 3 classes focusing on Native American Tribal research at our 2016 Family History Conference in Dallas later this month!

We strive to bring you the best possible program each year, packed with valuable learning opportunities. Those interested in learning more about Native American research will benefit greatly from many of the sessions and workshops in our extended schedule–classes focusing on methodology, strategies, record types, repositories, and tools. However, certain types of research often require a more specialized focus.

Fabulous American Indian records were digitized at the National Archives in Washington, DC and Fort Worth and at the American Indian Archives in Oklahoma City by Ancestry.com. Learn how to locate and use them and what different types of records are included.

Researching Native American Genealogy in Texas and Oklahoma

Texas and Oklahoma have a deep history of Native American settlement. Whether tribes were native or relocated to these regions during the 19th century, the documentation and history can be found in a variety of resources to be covered in this lecture. Four areas will be discussed in this presentation: origins of the tribes in Texas and Oklahoma, historical migrations of these tribes, the records documenting the tribes and their history, and current methods to research Indian lineage.
