About the Speaker
A genealogist since 2000, Mary became interested in the researching her family history in anticipation of an extended trip to Ireland. Her initial interest blossomed into a passion, leading her to write several articles for Internet Genealogy and Family Chronicle magazines. Mary Roddy, a Certified Public Accountant, received a Masters in Professional Accounting from the University of Texas. Mary earned a certificate from the Genealogy and Family History program at the University of Washington in 2005.
Mary applies her background in accounting to Excel spreadsheets in her workshop, leading attendees in learning how to harness this tool to create timelines, research logs, and more. In her conference presentations, Mary discusses researching those elusive females in our family trees as well as newspaper research.
She also is a regular book-reviewer for FGS Forum and writes profiles for the Genealogical Speakers Guild quarterly Speak! Mary is a frequent presenter for Legacy Family Tree Webinars as well as other society webinars. She is currently working on a novel set in the San Francisco area in 1900 and 1901, based on stories of several of her ancestors and their associates which she discovered in her genealogical research.
