About the Speaker

Sara Gredler, MS, is a genealogist, architectural historian, and historian with nearly 20 years of genealogical research experience. She is currently the President of the Williamson County (Texas) Genealogical Society and chair of its DNA Special Interest Group. She currently works at an architecture/engineering firm as an architectural historian, historic bridge surveyor, Microsoft Access database guru, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analyst. She holds a MS in Historic Preservation, and BAs in History and Classical Studies, as well as a Certificate in Irish Studies. She has attended GRIP for two years. Her research focuses are in western New York, Massachusetts, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Starting Your DNA Journey: Why Test and How to Use Your Results Beginning DNA testing can be a daunting prospect. Learn about what test to take and why, and how to use the results that you receive from each testing company to discover new data about your genealogy.

Think Like a Historian: Why Do People Do What They Do?
Genealogy is micro-history, looking at individual people during historic events to place them within the larger context. Even if you can’t find records that specifically address your ancestor, can you use the records that do exist to make reasonable hypotheses about the life of an ancestor?
