Presenter Sessions
Adoption Research: An Adoption Story
Adoption research is quickly becoming one of the most popular specialized fields in genealogy. With new advances in DNA and access to personal information more available to both amateur and professional researchers, genealogists are finding a niche in this area. This lecture will discuss the current state of adoption research and focus on several components: a case study on the lecturer’s personal adoption story, analysis of the research techniques used in the case study, ethical considerations about adoption research, and the future of adoption research.
Mixed Race Families in Postbellum East Texas: A Case Study
In the 1830’s, east central Texas was becoming inhabited by early settlers specifically in what would become Burleson and Washington County. Many of these settlers relocated from the South bringing the custom of slavery with them until the end of the Civil War. The population of both white and black families boomed after the emancipation of slaves, changing the dynamics of these Texas counties. This lecture will paint a picture of the life of two people, Wiley Evans and Lettie Escoe, in antebellum Texas.
Researching Native American Genealogy in Texas and Oklahoma
Texas and Oklahoma have a deep history of Native American settlement. Whether tribes were native or relocated to these regions during the 19th century, the documentation and history can be found in a variety of resources to be covered in this lecture. Four areas will be discussed in this presentation: origins of the tribes in Texas and Oklahoma, historical migrations of these tribes, the records documenting the tribes and their history, and current methods to research Indian lineage.

Hi,
My name is Kelly Jacobs-Sillers (Kelly Sillers) and I sent a message about a week ago. In the message I was trying to find out if I have a membership. I sent a $25.00 check July 2, 2016 and it was paid by the bank July 12, 2016. I stated that I never was sent a notice letting me know if you have this information. I did get a message back but I guess I will have to wait for a while to find out about the membership.
Another question is do you have the price for the TxSGS 2016 conference? The only rates I saw was for the hotel stay. And when will we be able to make the payment?
Kelly,
Thanks for your membership – we are grateful for your support! I have emailed you the results of our search for your membership, and appreciate your patience as we traced the payment.
We should have online conference registration available soon – you’ll receive an email when it’s up.
